•uoixvioosbv aiavo 'Z'n uxy kvitvuisiiv U.S.A. POLITICS. WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 The U.S.A. House has passed the „ Soldiers’ Bonus Bill, over the President’s veto, by 258 to 54. The Senate has sustained 'PresidentHarding’s veto of the Bonus Bill by 44 votes ,to 28. President Harding has asked Congress to appropriate two hundred thousand dollars for the relief of American refugees in the Near East, the Stato Department estimating that at least one thousand Americans are in pressing need of assistance. The President pointed out the need could not he filled by the private funds of the American relief organisations. Congressional leaders have promised prompt action. THE TARIFF. NEW YORK, Sept. 21 How seriously certain American business men will suffer under the new ~ Y tariff is indicated in a telegram which the National Council of American Importers lias sent to President Harding, asking him to delaV his signature to the Tariff Bill, which, thqgtefter, would immediately become law. The telegram points out-that the clothing group of the Council will face losses of many thousands of dollars if the tariff becomes law before they are able to assure the entry at the present rates of their goods en route to the United States. It adds that the group can ill afford to suffer this loss at the present time. It declares that many merchants in other lines of business are in the same predicament.
