AMUSEMENTS.

POLLARD’S PICTURES. THE “CARNIVAL” AND “A BROADWAY COWBOY.” TO-NIGHT! TO-NIGIIT! A wonderful picture! That was the general opinion of those who witnessed tile opening of “Carnival” at the Princess Theatre last night. From the point of view of photography and general production, both are as near perfect as possible. But what struck forcibly was the essentially Southern emotional atmosphere with which the film is penetrated. Matheson Lang as Silvio (who playing Othello on the stage, comes very nearly to the Moor’s tragedy in his own personal experience) Hilda Bailey as Simonetta and Ivor Novello as Andrea, repeat the triumphant success they achieved in the same roles on the stage. The Carnival scenes when coloured lights aie thrown over the dancers and are reflected in the moonlit lagoon, arc especially lovely. It is in these scene that Miss Bailey appears in a dancing costume as Bacchante. This big attraction will be screen agdin to-night for the last time.

In addition to the “Carnival” a Pathe Feature entitled “A Broadway Cowboy”’ starring William Desmond will lie shown. “A Broadway Cowboy” is a riotous comedy feature, filled with thrills pud the most astonishing surprises; ohe of the very greatest pictures of the year. He was a matinee idol, beloved by the girls because he was so handsome and looked so heroic. Even a matinee idol will fall fpr a girl, and lie did—hard. To square himself with the one girl's chaperone lie told her lie had known the damsel in Montana; lie furthermore intimated that lie bad ridden bucking bronchos, killed Indians and everything. And then—oh, unkind fate. Ho had to make good on his boasts.
