AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION LEAGUE MEETING. GENEVA, Sept. 18. Dr Nansen has asked the League of Nations Council (the Big Six) to take measures to safeguard the peace of the nations, by offering its .services to the belligerents in the Near East, or else to take other steps to seciiio* tlie immediate cessation of the liostil itios. Dr Nansen’s resolution has been referred to a commission for an urgent report. HELP FOR REFUGEES. GENEVA, Sovtembcr 19. Or Nansen told the Commission of the League of Nations that 103 thousand Greek and Armenian refugees from Smyrna and 170 thousand from Brussa had arrived at Constantinople. The Commission decided to ask the league to authorise the placing of Dr Nansen’s organisation at ifs disposal for relief work and also to ask the Council to make a grant for their preliminary relief.
