♦L’STKAUAN AND N.Z. CARLE AETSOCIATIOX. ATTACKS AND .MURDERS. OLX DON. Sept IS. The ‘‘Central News” reports that rebels attacked the offices of the “Irish independent,” Dublin. A detective and one Irregular were fatally shot. Raiders attacked a branch of the Ulster Bank in Caruivillon, County Leitrim. Steenens, the manager refused to surrender and shot one raider. The others thereupon bombed and wrecked the hank wounding Steenens severely.
The explosion of a, road mine in County Cork killed eight Free State soldiers including Colonel Kelioe. Four armed men entered .Mrs Rafferty's house and shot her dead.
A CONSTITUTION. LONDON, Sept. 18. Air Cosgrove lias introduced in the flail Eireann a Bill for the establishment i f a constitution. Ho gave the House clearly to understand that- there would lie no departure from tliose clauses vital to the Treaty and said the constitution represented the maximum that Ireland’s representatives are able to secure. It was equal to Lliose of the Commonwealth nations in the British Empire, and embraced all the best elements cf any of them. Mr Johnson, Labourite, suggested that the House reaffirm the Treaty find not adopt a constitution until something like quietude prevailed in the country. IRISH FIGHTING. LONDON. Sept. 19. Free Staters pursuing Irregulars retreat in, t to Ballina. ran into an ambush. In Ala.vo Hills in the neighbour hood of Biingorerrios they succeeded in heating off their assailants after still fighting. Two officers and six men wore killed. Ten Irregulars were killed and several wounded. The wires between Dublin and Holyhead arc cut.
