NEW YORK, Sept. 13 Anderson defeated Robert Kinsey (i—3, o—3, 3—o, o—l.0 —1. In the first set Anderson’s low swift drives were more effective than the Californian’s celebrated chop strokes. In the second set And l rsnn outplayed Kinsey both at the net and baseline, making good use oi his changing pace, hitting harder and using more varied tactics.' Kinsey improved in both speed and control in the third set upsetting Anderson’s service once in a Jove game and again with Anderson thirty. She Californian managed to sustain his effort winning the set handily. Anderson however, staged an effective reply in the fourth set, baffling his opponent with ids power and accuracy. Paterson defeated Francis T. Hunter B —(>, <>—l. 7—5. Hunter who defeated Paterson at Scabright tournament made a tremendous effort in the
first set. Paterson was slow in starting, Hunter breaking through his service in the third game. The American remained in the lead up to fi—4. Patterson was making errors off Hunter’s hard service while the latter was sending ovar brilliant passing shots. .Just as the set seemed slipping through, Patterson rallied and defeated Hunter in a love game. thereafter hitting savagely overhead and improving his volleying In the final game Patterson broke through Hunter’s service the American helping with errors.
