AUCKLAND, Sept. 13 At the Supreme Court, William Henry Bowman was sentenced to three years' reformative treatment for lading to comply with the terms of a proha tion order in respect to a charge ol fernery. The Judge said the pro liation system was no empty form. Any man once liberated, who failed to comply with the conditions, must tie punished. This Act enabled the Court to deal Fluently with offenders, in order that they may have a chance ol rehabilitating themselves as respectable members of the community. FINED. I'IKETAHUNA, Sept. It. At the Eketnhunri Court Mr Free. S.M.. fined O’Malley, barman at Woodville, £25 on a charge of soliciting orders for liquor ip the lio-iiconsc district of Masterton. APPARENT SUICIDE. AUCKLAND, Sept M The lrodv. found in tie- dinghy was that of John Henry Roekfort, age-1 53, Master of the scow Kaiaia. It was stated at the inquest that ho left the vessel on Tuesday afternoon to get the pay for his. men. When seen in the dinghy, lie was asked where lie was going. He replied : “To do a littl - private business.” He had a pea rifle in his cabin, hut this could not he found, when a search was made af:oi the ladv was found. There was a wound on deceased’s temple (evidently caused hv a sins’ll bullet). There were bullets of .22 calibre in deceased’)-, pocket. The inquest was adjourned for a post mortem.
CHARGE DISMISSED. AUCKLAND Sep- V, At the Police Court, the charge against Leonard William Prescott of abducting a girl, alleged under the age of sixteen years, was dismissed. The girl’s birth certificate showed that she was nineteen years of age.
