[BY TF.I.ECR APH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. THE COUNCIL. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. Mercantile Law Amendment Bill and Sea Carriage of Goods Bill read first time. The Council rejected it by 18 votes to 10. Tlv Justices of the Peace Amendment Bill providing for the appointment of women to tlie roll of Justices Bill passed by tlie House of Representatives last week. The Council adjourned at 4.45 p.m. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. The following bills were introduced and read a first time. Tlie Electric Bower Board Amendment Bill (Hon J. G. Coates), Judicature Amendment Bill (Hon. Lee); Fire Blight Bill (Tlon. Noswortby), War Disabilities Removal Bill (Hon. Stowart). Tbe following bills were read a second time— Canterbury College and Canterbury Agriculture College Amendment Bill (Hon. Pair); Hanraki Plains Amendment Bill (Hon. Guthrie); Customs Act Amendment Bill (Hon. Stewart); Insurance Companies Deposits Amendment Bill No 2. (Hon. Lee). The House rose at 1.40 a.m.
