The House met at 2.30 p.m. The following Bills were introduced by Governor’s .Message and read for the first time—Weights and .Measures Amendment, Slate Eire fnsuranc' Amendment; Post and Telegraph Amendment; Hamilton Domain Amendment. On the motion of 'the Premier, it was agreed that on and after 13th September for the remainder of the session. Government business would tal-m precedence on Wednesdays. Mr Massey speaking to the motion, said j hoped the business i f the session would - conclude about the end cl next month j and that the election would bo held j within live weeks of the House rising. , It certainly would he earlier than itj was on the last occasion. ; The Petitions Committee which considered 73 petitions signed .hv 80,551 prrsnnw, praying that, the business in i imkmakers he legalised aiyJ hookmakers lie licensed, reported it had no recommendation to make. At tlie evening sitting the Mercantile Law Amendment and Sen Carriage of Goods Bills were put through committee without amendment, read :\ third time and passed. State Advances Amendment was read a second time.
