Sydney ’Varsity defeated Canterbury College by 13 points to nine at Lancaster R. rk in the Rugby game after a fast game, witnessed by a large crowd. Sydney kicked off. Bt siding, tight play saw Sydney badly ‘nil Bennett landed a fine goal, which hit . the upright-, and shot over. Canterbury 3, Sydney 0. Notwithstanding the visitors eight scrummers, Canterbury forced the play along, and in a loose rush along the line. Watson was just beaten on the touch for a tiw. The Sydney fliers were unable to open up the game against the bustling local forwards. Black feinted and broke away for the line and the-referee let a knock-on go; and then Raymond and Woodhead carried on the movement for an easy score. Pool passing by Sydney slowed up the game. Woodhead dashed clear, mid transferred to Black who scored and Raysmith converted Sydney 8, Canterbury 3. Soon after Bennett got over, his kick failing. Splendid tackling then saved Canterbury. Sydney were quick at getting rid of the hail, but the recipients were usually promptly pounced on, and their passes smothered. Tn the second spell there was some doubt as to whether Canterbury could
stay the distant' \ Canterbury besieged the Sydney line, and from a penalty. Bennett kicked a fine goal. Canterbury 9, Sydney 8. Canterbury forwards were irresistahle hut their backs did not gather up openings. An anxious time f-'llowed for Canterbury, and Sydney were unlucky not to score seven al times. Canterbury's weak tackling let Foote over, Raysmith converting. Sydney 13. Canterbury 9. Smart who played a fine game, had to go
off here. Stewart taking the wing. Sydney were on the attack for the last five minutes, and Woodhead was nearly
over once, hut was brought down by Robertson. The final score was: Sydney 13, Canterbury 9.
