[ny TELEOHAPH—PER PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Sept. 7. THE COUNCIL. The Legislative Council met at 2..10 p.m. The Justice of the Peace Amendment Bill was read a first time. The Administration of Justice Bill, Settled Lands Amendment Bill and iSwamp Drainage Amendment Bill were reported from committees without amendment.

The Council rose at 4.45 p.m

THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. The greater part of the afternoon sitting was taken up with formal business, at the conclusion of which the Premier moved the customary resolution of condolence with the relatives of two recently deceased former members of the House, Mr J. J. Holland (Auckland), and Mr Donald Reid (Otago). The motions wore agreed to, and the House rose at 4.15 p.m. as a mark of respect to the memories of the deceased members.

At the evening sitting, the House passed the following local Bills; — Gisborne Harbour Board Enabling Amendment Bill (Air Williams) ; Christchurch Municipal Offices Leasing Bill (Mr Isitt) ; Wairau River District Loans Bill (Air McCnlium) ; Wairau Harbour Board Empowering Bill (Mr AlcCallum) ; Christchurch City Sanitation Empowering Amendment Bill (Air Tsitt) ; Whnkntnne Hnr hour Amendment Bill (Air Hoekly). On tile motion of Air Parr the Pharmacy Bill was read a second time. The Shipping and Seamen’s Amendment llil lwas read a second time, pro forma and reft Bred to the Labour Bills’ Committee. On the motion of Hon Anderson, the Coal Mines’ Amendment Bill was read a second time and referred to the Alines’ Committee. The House, rose at 10.51 p.m.
