Progress League

CHRISTCHURCH, September 7. The executive committee of the Canterbury Progress League met last evening, Mr W. M. M'Alpine presiding. The president referred to the pleasant visit of West Coast delegates, aod stated that the resolutions passed at the conference would come up for eoniirmation, together with those of the conference on the Port ( hristehurch League’s proposal. He was pleased to report that a very successful conference had been held regarding main highways, especially from a countiv member's point of view. Tlie meeting discussed the resolutions come to at the conference with West Coast delegates, and endorsed those relating to the speedy opening of the Otira tunnel, the extension of trade relations, tlie furtherance of the diamond jubilee exhibition of Westland, tlie provision of direct telephone communication, the completion of the Buller Gorge railway, the question of a more liberal policy in regard to goldmining anil the improvement of communications between Reelton and Mariiia Springs. Messrs A. G. Henderson, 0. M. Hall, W. J. Jonkiii, and H. J. Marriner were npoointed a siih-cnmmittce to ("infer with the Westland Committee in regard to the Westland Diamond Jubilee movement .
