The Australian hockey team opened its tour against Nelson this afternoon in fine weather and on a good playing area. There was a large attendance. A fast and interesting game resulted in a draw —four goals each. The Australian team had never been together before but showed clever stick' work and inirative. Seaman (2), Craig and Hughes scored for Australia, and C. Whitewell and Dee, two goals each for Nelson.
