GERMAN NEWS.
AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION A BIG CONTRACT. BERLIN, Sepember 5.
A sensation lias been caused here in connection with a. contract, that has been made between Hugo Stinnes (the German industrial magnate), and tho General Federation of Co-operative Societies in the French devastated aieu. The contract is to supply buildings and other reconstruction materials, valued at one hundred and thirty millions sterling. Hugo Stinnes’ concerns will make a profit of six per cent. Tiie French people have presumably entered into this contract by virtue of the Wiesbaden and other supplementary agreements, which came into operation on the first of August, and by which the sufferers of war losses in the devastated regions are entitled to negotiate direct with German firms for supplies of materials, the cost of which may be debited against the claims made in respect to the indemnities, while the German suppliers must secure the payment from their own Government.
