VALEDICTORY.

On Monday evening the Staff and Staff friends, of the Hokitika Mental Hospital tendered a presentation dance to Mr F„ If. Dnwsan, Who, after four years’ service, lias severed his connection with the institution. The arrangements were carried out by the Social Committee, ably assisted by the Nurses’ Sub-committee. Mr Walker was M.C., and the excellent musical programme was played by the Seaview Musical Trio Miss Maefarlane (piano), Mr Martini (cornet), and Mr Dawson (flute). Extras were given hv Miss Shadholt and Mr Dave Christensen.

During the supper interval, Mr Called (Chairman) thanked the visitors for braving the elements, and those who had made the social function a success, and voiced a feeling of appreciation of the guest of the evening. Mr Mulrennan, who made the presentation gave a forceful resume of Mr Dawson’s services both as an attendant and as an unselfish worker on the Social and SuhSection Committees. him on gaining the highest examination honours to a mental nurse and on his \ appointment a-s flautist in the Crystal Palace (Christchurch) Symphony Orchestra. He predicted that, within a . few years, Mr Dawson would be amongst the foremost instrumentalists in the Dominion. In presenting him with a handsome travelling rug, he conveyed the good wishes if the staff for Air Dawson’s future success and happiness. Mr Dawson, in reply, said the praise and the present were undeserved and assured the staff that their kindness would serve as a. grateful memory of his stay in Seaview.
