TURKISH ADVANCE. (Received this day at 9.50 a.m.) LONDON, September 5. It is understood that communications are pnssing between the Allied Governments and High Commissioner at Constantinople with a view to "Ascertaining the best means of avoiding massacres and protecting Allied subjects. Thousands of Christian refugees are approaching Smyrna. The Turkish advance continues, and the Greeks are reported to be withdrawing towards Smyrna. They are not fighting and arc burning villages on the way.
FRENCH ATTITUDE. (Recoived this clay at 9.50 a.m.) PARIS, September 5. The newspapers doubt whether France will join Britain in obtaining an armistice.
