AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE) ASSOCIATION A COLLIER. FOUNDERS. SYDNEY, Sept. 4. The collier Queen Bee, trading fron Sydney to Newcastle for fifteen years suddenly foundered off Broken Bay or Saturday. All hands were saved. EDUCATION CRITICISM. SYDNEY, Sept. 4. In consequence of the Executive o' the Teachers* Federation criticising th. proposal in respect to high school fees, Mr Bruntnell.has communicated with the Federation, saying it is discourteous to him and unworthy of the traditions of the public service. The Federation lengthily debated the letter and passed a resolution of endorsement of the Executive’s criticism. REMARKABLE DIVORCE CASE. SYDNEY, August 24. Sydney Divorce Court bad one of the most extraoi dinary eases of its history last week. Believing her husband to bo dead, Elinor Jane Chaseling Chisholm in May, 1909. married Henry George Marshall. In December, 1921, she received a letter from her husband she supposed Jto be dead. It was followed by the; appearance, like another Enoch Arden of the- long-lost spouse at the home of his wife and Marshall.
The letter 1 which Mrs Chisholm received from her husband began as follows:—“Dear madam, being on a flying visit to Sydney, t had a great desire to seo my hoy Keith, but on making enquiries t heard he died years ago.” Mr'S' Chisholm was granted a decree returnable in six months, declaring her marriage with George Henry Marshall null and void. She said she married George Chisholm at Sydney in 1890. There were several children of th© marriage. In 1895 Chisholm went to Western Australia and did not return for five years. He then visited his wife and went hack to Western Australia. She heard he had gone from there to South Africa. ?nd then lost all trace of him. In 1907 someone "sent her a newspaper cutting with an account of her husband’s death and eighteen months later sho married Marshall.
Whjpn Chisholm presented himself at the home she was overcome, but mutual explanations resulted in a satisfactory understanding. The result of the decree will bo that in three months’ time it will be a case of exit Marshall and re-enter Chisholm to the homo and family from which he has been so long a stranger.
A STATE FUNERAL. (Received this day at 8 n.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 5. Henry Lawson was given a State funeral, which was largely attended, those present including the Prime Mini ster and representatives of tlie Federal and State Parliaments. The interment took place at Wavcrley in the grave where Kendall was originally buried.
PRINTERS RESUME. HOB.ART, Sept. 5. Tlie “Mercury” printers have resumed work, pending a confererice to settle certain points in dispute, upon which no agreement lias yet been reached. NO PAPERS. Much interest lias been created by a new find made by Messrs Donnelly and Thompson, ten miles south-east of Belong. Tho prospectors have just crushed 19 tons, which yielded 193 ounces. Tlie plates and sands are expected to yield another 2 ozs. 'Pile ore was obtained from an o]x?n cut Bft deep. There is a quartz reef. 3ft wide. The line of bale lias been [legged for two and a half miles. A score or more motor cars dashed out to tlie scene of the discovery this morning.
