The spectators rose to their feet and gave Patterson and Wood a remarkable' ovation. Wood was the outstanding hero of the day, bis placement shots and nets being constantly brilliant and frequently miraculous. Patterson was greater than he lias ever been in the doubles here. and was frequently spectacular, but for the most part lie was content to let Wood shine. Tildun fought a terrific battle, but found no support i.i Richards, who was unable to clear the net with his returns.
