THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
Select™ Ykhse. From scenes like tlicse old Scotia’s grandeur springs, That makes her lov’d at home, rever’d abroad. Princes and lords arc hut the breath of Kings— An honest man’s the noblest work of God. The foregoing is the verse selected by Mr W. Patrick at the request of the Memorial Committee, to he placed on the pedestal of the Robert Burns’ statue to be erected in Cass Square, the collection for funds for which is now in hand. At the suggestion of the .Memorial Committee a Burns’ quotation will appear as a thought for the times daily during the month of September .which tvas the period specially set apart for the/ raising of the money required for the statue. Burns’ was such a human poet that his works lend themselves to apropos quotations, and it is interesting to note how many of lii s writings have passed into colloquial sayings. The world is greatly indebted to him for his gretit literary services, which is a special reason why the statue to be erected here in his honor should have very general support.
