SOUTH AUCKLAND V. HAWKE’S BAY. HAMILTON, Aug. 29. Tile Hawke’s Bay League touring team met South Auckland at Hamilton. A good, fast, even game ensued. The- score at half-time was: Hawke’s Bay, 10; South Auckland, 8. South Auckland finally ran out winners by 17 points to 15.
OTAGO BEAT TARANAKI. 'DUNEDIN. Aug. 30 Otago met and defeated Taranaki to-day by 17 to 3’before an attendance of about 8000 persons. .The Blues had the better of the game throughout, the backs being greatly superior to ihe opposition.
HOROWHENUA BEAT GOLDEN BAY.
OTAIyJ, Aug. 30. Horowhenua heat Golden Bay by 24 !>oiiits to 5 after a fail- game. Fry drew first blood, scoring for the visitors. Then Brougton and Wakefield scored in succession for Horowhenua, one try being converted. The score was 8 to 6 at the end of the first spell. Tana, Maynihan, and Meta (2) scored tries in the second, .Jacob kicking two goals and bringing the total to 2-1 points to 5.
SCHOOLS RUGBY. INVERCARGILL, Aug. 30 The’.SoiVth Island High Schools Football Tournament concluded to-day. Southland won the final, beating Timaru by 8 to 3. Tries were scored for Southland by Harrington, and Hanna, Ottrey converting one. Boys kicked a penalty goal for Timaru. The play was fairly even all through, .Southland having slightly the better of the first spell, and Timaru playing with the. more dash in the second.
Christchurch heat Otago G to nil. Tries were got by Kipworth and Kemp. Christchurch had the better of the game. The solid tackling of Otago kept the score down.
AIO A SCAR CUP. PALMERSTON N„ Aug. 30. A crowd of 4000 watched the semifinal game of the North Island competition for the Moascnr Cup played on the Show Grounds to-day, lictween Te Auto College and Auckland Grammar School. The weather mul ground were all that could be desired, and a slashing game resulted. The Auckland Grammar School owed their win to a fast and clever set of hacks.
The tackling on both sides was low and deadly, and from start to finish the game was played at a clinking pace. During the second half, the Maoris had hard luck in not- scoring, for they were within an nee of it on several'oceasioiiK. Grammar woii by 11 to G.
SOUTH CANTERBURY V. MANAWATU, The game, South Canterbury against Manawntu, was devoid of brilliancy, and was rather more productive of amusement than enthusiasm. South Canterbury won by. 9 to 3. Leeder scored a try for Manawntu in the first five minutes. A. Scott and D. Stewart scored tries and G. Lawson kicked a penalty goal for the visitors.WELLINGTON B. V. WEST COAST. GREYMOUTH, August 31. The representative football match yesterday between ’Wellington R team and West Coast resulted in a win for WestCoast hv 15 point's (a potted goal, and 3 tries, one converted) to 6 points (two penalty goals).
For Coast, tries were scored by Bannister Egan and Russell, one being converted by Nelson, while Russell potted a goal. For Wellington Murphy kicked two penalty goals.
