Okuru Notes.
* (From a Correspondent). At a meeting held here last week tlio l.enl residents definitely decided to erect a butter factory at Okuru and have the same ready for opening on October Ist., 1923, (or next October 12 months). About 220 cows have been guaranteed for the opening date. There is a possibility of getting a butter plant at a reasonable figure which has become top small for the district in which it is operating, and the owners have decided to instill a larger plant so after inspection of plant, and if found satisfactory, arrangements will bo made to purchase
About 1500 shares have been taken up by local residents and as the factory will probably cost £3OOO, there will be £ISOO of shares offered to the general public. As there are some 14 farms, varying from 100 to 200 acres available for new settlers in tlio Okuru district, there is every promise of a considerable increase in the milk supply, thus assuring success to the Okuru butter factory. There is also a very large extent of swamp and semi-swamp land surrounding tho site of tile factory, which can, without much expense, be turned in smiling homesteads, so the possibilities of the district arc very good indeed.
