Empire Air Service
AUSTRALIA’S PART. SYDNEY, Aug 10. So far as Australia is concerned, the proposal to establish an Empire Air Service appears to hi- approved. After a further interview with Sir Keith Smith, the Prime Minister has stated that them is now a definite proposal under which the British and Indian Governments are prepared to' co-operate. He will shortly bring the matter before the Federal Parliament. The scheme will render possible a
journey from Perth to Guidon in lli. datys 'Wja-ns for this service across 12,(KM) miles of land and ocean have been placed before the Prime Minister by Sir Keith Smith, with the object, if possible, of obtaining the co_ operation of the Commonwealth Government. They have already been submitted to the British authorities. The proposal for the formation of a company with an available capital of £4,000,000, £1,000,000 m ordinary shares and £5,000,000 in debentures. The company’s declared object is to establish a mail and passenger service to India and Australian, subject to the British Government arranging by means of a subsidy a guarantee of a' dividend and interest for a period of years. „ Delay in the commencement or other Australian services has now
been obviated by the action of the Commonwealth authorities in allowing the landing in Australia of engines ordered hv the various contractors. These include the Adelnide-Melhoorne, Melbourne-Sydney. and Sydnev-Bris-bane lines, as well •as the proposed West Queensland route.
