CORRESPONDECE

A BELATED EXPLANATION. (To llio Editor). Sir.—l think some little explanation is due from me, with respect to the paragraph that appeared in the papers to the effect that I had stated at the last meeting of the Nelson Education Board, “that I had been on the West Coast for a fortnight, and had not. seen the sun." This is not correct, what really happened was—Three of the School Committees in the lnangahua district, applied to the Board foi grants for the erection of shelter sheds at their respective schools. In moving that their request he granted, and to emphasise the necessity of each school on the West Coast having a shelter shed, 1 stilted I had been in Keefton for four days, and had not seen the sun, owing tp the dense fog which prevailed there. 1 could not have included the West Coast, as i was two days in Greymouth, during which time the sun was shilling almost as bright as it does in Nelson. I much regret that my remarks cm this occasion should cast any reflection on the W'est Coast, seeing 1 was a resident there of over 40 years, and wherever I may reside, the Coast will ever have a warm corner in my heart, and its welfare will ever have my support. In conclusion 1 may add that the Board granted the requests for the shelter sheds. Thanking you, E. J. SCANTLEBURY. Nelson, 22/8/1022.
