The Senate’s Labour Committee has favourably reported on a bill for the creation of the proposed Coal Commission, the measure empowering President Harding to choose representatives of the mine operators, the miners, ol the public as he sees fit. The bill i~ to provide for five members -a salary of 7500 dollars each. The Commission will make a complete investigation of the costs, profits, and working conditions in the mines. The commission will report on the advisableness of nationalising the coal distribution of coal to the industry.; on methods for the ising of employment in the mines, lor the stopping of strikes, and for the doors.

NOVA SCOTIA STRIKE. MONTREAL, August 22. The annual Convention of the. Dominion Trades Congress has telegraphed to the Premier of Canada, Mr McKenzie King, protesting against the presence of Canadian troops on the Nova Scotia coal fields (as cabled on August 16th). The Convention pointed out Ibafc the strike of the miners is “one hundred per cent, effective,” and that it only be broken by military forces ““ which, Labour fears, is the intent of the Government.
