SYDNEY VARSITY BEAT. AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, August 22. The Sydney University Rugby team opened its tour by playing Auckland University College and winning by 20 to 9. The weather was fine, btlt the ground was heavy and greasy. The visitors played superlative football throughout the game, outplaying and outclassing Auckland. The first spell was practically all in favour of Sydney, the forwards beating their opponents for the ball and the pace of theft backs ip cjisp posing rushes, with faultless fielding, being always dangerous. In the second -spell the Auckland forwards played with greater dash, and the back's also imi proved but high tackling, which Raymond, Black, Foote and Hasslein fend, ed off with pace and power, proved Auckland’s undoing, the Sydney backs repeatedly breaking through. In the first spell the visitors scored nine points to nil; Hasslein kicked a penalty goal whilst Blac-k and Raymond scored tries. In the second spell, Black, Raymond and Fdote scored and Hasslein converted Raymond’s try. For Auckland Keigan arid Wylie scored unconverted tries and Miller kicked a penalty gaol. St Patrick’s led by 8 to 3 at half time. In the second session the local forwards outplayed their opponents, adding three tries. TIMARU, August 23. The South Canterbury v.
