AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. LABOUR WAGE WAR. SYDNEY, August 22. A conference of trade unionists representing the Commonwealth lias been convened for August 23rd to discuss the increase in the hours of work to 48 weekly and the reduction of wages and future action to he taken in the event of the unions disagreeing with these

measures. The conference will decide whether it will hand the whole matter over to the Commonwealth Council of Action in cder to nut ouf a policy for the whrflo movement in Australia. The Farmers’ Conference adopted a resolution condemning the action of the Australian "Workers’ Union in refusing to carry on shearing under the terms of Justice Power’s award and recommending that if the trouble is not settled before the conference rises, all branches of the Association will be called upon to send volunteers to tbe various districts to complete the shearing.

W\STE OF MONEY. SYDNEY, August 22. Speaking at the New South Wales, Farmers’ Conference, Hon. Mr Trethowan, a member of the "Legislative Council, who recently visited London in connection with marketing of primary products, urged the need of having someone in London thoroughly conversant with the business who could decide fearlessly without having to refer to Australia. He mentioned that, while in London, lie was able to make £40,000 to £50,000 for the wheat pool, because he was able to put through the sales at th o right time. He contended that Australia was not receiving the adequate return for the outlay of £I,OOO- - spent on the Australia House in London, mid the several thousands more spent yearly upon the High Comnihsioner and his staff. The business side of Australia, representation in London was not sufficiently looked after.
