Stout S.M. to-day that on July 11th. at Feeding, with intent to defraud, they did falsify telegrams relating to tlie racehorses Some Fashion and Roniance at the recent Trench am meeting, and thereby obtain William Prince the stlms of £260 and £65. Prince, the chief witness, was indemnified by the police from any prosecution relating to bets. Voluminous evidence was given by thirty three witnesses, the case lasting all day. Both pleaded not guilty and were committed for trial at next Supreme Court sitting at Palmerston N orth.

A THEFT CHARGE. HASTINGS, August 21. Montague Thomas Sabine Pa«ley, an accountant with Ho ad ley Son and Stewart Ltd., merchants and auctioneers. Hastings appeared at tile Magistrate’s Cuort on remand on a charge of seven counts of stealing on different dates between last December and July. Various sums were involved amounting to £471 13s 3d, all the property of the firm. The accused wlip gave himself up, pleaded guilty to all the charges in a signed statement to the police. He admitted all the charges and said he joined the firm thirteen years ago, and about a year after commenced taking small amounts.
