AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. U S.A RAILWAY STRIKE. NEW YORK, Aug 20. The unions are making a demand for the re-employment of strikers. They as.lo refuse to submit the seniority question to the Railway Labour Board. . These demands threaten to/ block a settlement of the railway strike.
There are increasing disorders in tlie middle, west and south. These also menace the peace movement. One important railway, the Ncwhaven and Hartford Company, has signed an agreement with its employes which means decreasing the amount of the wage reductions which the Railway Labour Board had ordered. There has been a wreck on the Michigan Central Railroad. The officials declare it was,due to a. withdrawal of spikes, permitting the .rails to spread. It resulted in the death of two men. and the serious injury of two others, and the demolition of a baggage train A reward of lOOOdol. is offered for the capture of any wreckers.
