TENNIS
NEW YORK, August 19
Wood and Gonnir in the first set, both played carefully and not over speedily. They went to fourteen games before it was decided. In the next "set Gomar played perfect tennis, but Wood was strangely wild and appeared troubled by his arm and liis face was strained by weariness. He steadied remarkably in the third, winning tbe first three ghmes on volley placements. Gomar tired and his service was stiugless. He was frankly anxious to rest, hut in the fourth covered the court splendidly, recovering some hard shots. Wood was playing steadily in the fifth set. Gomar won the first and third games but tired while Wood seemed refreshed, covering tlio court freely and hitting returns hard. He took the other games easily.
