THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
Phactising Economy. Like the Government of New Zealand, the British Government has been compelled by public opinion and by hard facts to economise, but the British Chancellor seems to have been more thorough ovei- the job than the New Zealand Finance Minister. A drop of 4.4 per cent, in the British revenue was met with a 36 per cent, fall in expenditure. In New Zealand revenue was down 5.6 per cent, and expenditure 23 per cent. The net saving was .relatively, nearly twice as great in Britain as it was in New Zealand.
