The “Daily Mail” states the Air Ministry has placed first orders to the. value of three hundred thousand as part of a- scheme for five hundred machines for home defence. The machines ordered include a great all metal machine weighing fifteen tons. Another is an improved aerial troop transport to accommodate 25 soldiers with equipment. Others include a huge multiengined bomber which can manoeuvre, a- small scout metal single senter fighter fleeter than anything yet built, and several flying ships capable of flying at a high sneed and riding rough sens.

PRINTERS STRIKE SETTLED. (Received this day at 12.25 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 17. The printers dispute which for so long disorganised the provincial newspaper world has been settled. As a result of a conference the Typographical Association agreed to recommend strikers to resume immediately, with a reduction of 3s weekly; also there would be a ballot on acceptance of a gradual total reduction of f2s.
