Motor Versus Railway • During a discussion on the question of motor-lorry competition with the railways, at the annual meeting or the Newbury Dairy Company, the chairman stated that lie had, by way of experiment. consigned a ton of cheese by motorlorry from the factors’ to Wellington, instead of having it carted to Palmerston North and thence railed to Wellington. A saving of 8s lo 10s for the ton was effected. Several suppliers spoke in favour of utilising the motor-lorry service, while Hie chairman explained that he understood reduced railway freights would obtain when the railway tariff was revised. _______
