Preston's concrete i premises to ho erected on the site of the “Don" store Ifevell Street, for a ■ drapery business. The material lor the new budding has been arranged I for and will shortly be deposited on j the ground. The building which will ' face Weld Street, will he an imposing 1 structure. The district engineer of railways has written as follows to the Grey County Council regarding the Brunner bridge: . “T am instructed to inform your Council that as this bridge is no longer re- ! quired for railway purposes, the De--1 partment does not propose- to rebuild 1 it. If your Council or any of the ' local bodies concerned wish the bridge. . the Department will assist to the extent of handing over without charge j what material is available for the purI pose provided the work is earned out to the satisfaction of the Public Works j Department. The new material avail--1 able consists of joists and plates for . the foundation, hold backs, new steel | wire ropes, tightening screws, etc. I Generally the material availabe is su'fficient to rebuild the bridge with the ex- . ception of the renewal to the timber | and concrete work. Will you please let . me know your wishes in the matter.”

The tramcar was just starting, when a Jack Tar aboard requested the motorman to delay a moment. This request lK'ing complied with, the man of the sea walked straight over to the young fellows, landed first one end then the other a skilful blow on the jaw, sending them sprawling in the roadway. He then briskly regained the tramcar, calmly took his seat, lighted a cigarette, and preceded on his wav to tha city as unconcernedly as though nothing had eventuated to disturb) bis placid and serene composure.
