The General Estimates.
An item in the estimates of the Land and Survey Department, is the .Midland Railway reserves fund of tlie timber royalties to local authorities of £5830. It is explained that owing to a. misunderstanding, rents, royalties, etc,, derived from the Midland Railway mining reserves have been treated as territorial revenue (one half only of which is payable to local authorities), instead of as gobl-fields revenue, the whole of which is payable to local authorities. The amounts required to he refunded to the local authorities concerned, in order to adjust their accounts, are as follows: Westland County Council, April. Bill, to June 30th.. 1921, £495 18s sd; l.rcy County Council, April 1914 to June 39th 1921, C 1,148 Is /id; Inangahun County County .April 1, 1917, to -J lino 30th 1921. £I3BB 18s 8d : Bullet - County Council, £2797 8s l(ld; total £5830 7s 4d. The Forestry Department's estimates provide £24£d f<>r tho establishment of a forest experiment station for the purpose of carrying out silvicultural operations, in order to formulate a. sound plan.
