BV TELEGRAPH—PRESB ABBN., COPYRIGHT., SHIPPING DISPUTE. .WELLINGTON, August 15. The Arbitration Court to-day continued the hearing of the fiispute connected with the shipping industry. The case in point was that of master officers and application for an award was made by the Union Company. A number of clauses had been settled in the Conciliation Council. The questions of wages, hours and a number of the Guilds’ counter proposals had been referred to the Court for settlement. Mr W. G. Smith, for the Union Company occupied the morning stating the case for the company. THEFT CHARGE. WELLINGTON, August 14. At th P Supreme Court to-day, William Neville Ward plendeH guilty try the theft of Government documents and moneys from the Native Land Depart merit. He was sentenced to two years’ reformative treatment. EGMONT SEAT. WELLINGTON, August 14. A meeting of delegates from tho Egroont electorate at Eltham this afternoon selected Dr D. L. A. Astfcury. a prominent farmer, to represent the Liberal Labour Party at the coming election against Mr Hawken, the present member. At last election Mr Hawken polled 3123 votes and Mr Astbury 2932. MAIN TRUNK ACCIDENT. WELLINGTON, August 14.
Tlie Railway Department is making an official investigation into the accident which caused the derailment of the Main Trunk near Drury. It is alleged that the fences along both sides of the railway in that vicinity were in good order, therefore a mosE important phase of the investigation will seek to elucidate why at least six cattle w-’re on the line when the express was due to pass. A FATALITY. TIMARU, Aug 16. The botlv of a man named John Parry a well-known tramp, aged 66 years was found on the railway line •it Seadown this morning.
