WELLINGTON, August 11. THE COUNCIL. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. . c The second reading of the larilt Agreement Ratification Bill was, on the motion of Sir William Fraser postponed for one week. The fate of tho Bill in Australia had not yet been decided he said, and consequently t'>ere was no reason for undue haste. It would be well to wait and see what Australia did with the treaty. The Local Bodies Loans Amendment Rill was read a second time pro forma, and referred to the Statute Revision Committee. The Council adjourned at 3.35 p.m. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. The whole of the afternoon sitting was taken up with formal business. The House resumed at 7.30 p.m.
Gisborne Harbour Board enabling amendment Bill (Mr Williams), and Christchurch Municipal Offices Leasing Bill (Mr Isitt) wore read a second time without debate. Amendmenst made in committee in the Land Drainage Amendment Bill were agreed to and the hill was read a third time and passed. Ttotmua Borough Bill was taken in committee and reported with machinery amendments proposed hy the Minister. The following Bills wore road a second time pro forma, and referred to the Statutes Bevision Committee on the motion of Hon. Leo. Sea Cairiage of Goods Bill, Mercantile Law Amendment Bill. Settled hand Amendment Bill, Naval Defence Amendment Bill, and hand Drainage Amendment Bill wore rend a third time and passed. hand Tax (annual Bill) was on the motion of the Premier, rend a second time, after a lengthy debate. The House rose at 12.3 d n.m.
