In t-lio first match of the preliminary contest between Australia and Franco at Boston for the Davis Cup, Patterson defeated Cohort, 4-6, 3-6. 6-3, 6-2 6-3. In the first set, Cohort showed remarkable skill, clearly outplaying his opponent. Tn the second he met wit 1, equal success. His placements uero quite uncanny while Patterson sent most of his drives info the net. This, however, was the end of his success. Anderson is suffering from a mild bronchial attack and slight fever and Wood takes his place against Cochet.
