SYDNEY, Aug 9In the New South Wales Assembly a motion was moved Lv Stewart Robertson in favour of introducing aBill fixing the basic wage for adult males at £4 5s a week and for adult females at £2 3s. The motion was negatived by 36 votes to 21. SYDNEY FIRE BRIGADE. SYDNEY. Aug 9. A meeting of the Fire Brigade’s Employees’ Union to-day discussed the go-slow suggestion (milled <>» August 6th). They deferred any notion pending a rcnly from the Fire .Brigades’ Board as to whether it intends to enforce a reduction in wages. \ reply is demanded by Friday. Alenntinie the members of the Union pledged themselves zealously to peiform their duties. rOLICE REPORT. (Received this day at 9.50 a.m.) SYDNEY. August 10. The annual report of the police Department for 1921 shows the force which is some two hundred below normal strength, had to deal with a further serious increase in crime compared with the previous year, particularly the metropolitan area.. Juvenile offences ncarlv doubled and offences in many cases wore of a more serious character. Another feature of The reports is the increased number assaults upon police.
