AMUSEMENTS.

POLLARD’S PICTURES.

WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. “WAY DOWN EAST.” All arrangements have been completed for .the coming engagement of D. W. Griffith masterful motion .picture elaboration of “Way Down East” to-night ft will be screened for two nights only to-night and Thursday. Again, as in the case of “The Birth of a Nation,” Griffith has turned to a. success of the stage for his material. This time he has taken ft play that has withstood the titles of time for more than a score of years and enjoyed an unusual appeal. The success that has crowned liis efforts proves that nothing dies .for this master of the .silent drama; no art is lost. This great play lives ngain in greater scope and grandeur through his touch and vivifi‘ation. When Lottie Blair Parker and Joseph Grismer brought forth this drama at a time before people were accustomed to think in or of the theatre it was referred to es a rural play; Griffith has utilised it to bring forth the story of a woman’s soul and thus lay bare truths ns urban ns Broadway and as universal as the skies. In this picturisation, spectators are transformed from pastoral solitudes to the glitter of city life, thus furnishing a series of contrasts that enhance the dramatic values of the offering. The delightful comedv scenes of simple country folk are retained and even amplified, while the finale brings forth the great snowstorm scenes ending with the stupendous crashing ice-gorge, all of which are presented in a manner the public has come to expect in a Griffith produstion. The orchestral accompaniment is said to ho the most pretentious yet attempted in connection with a photo-dramfti presentation. The management of Pollards’ Pictures wishes .to advise patrons that owing to ■the widespread appeal and vogue of this presentation it is quite prudent that seats he secured in advance ns early as possible.. The prices arc. Circle 3s 3d ; Stalls 2s 2d ; Children half price.
