Hokitika School Committee.

MONDAY, AUGUST 7th

The Committee met at 7.30 p.m- 4’ re " sent: Messrs W. H. Shannon (Chairman), 5. Lloyd, iA. Aitken, W. E. Richards, ,T. King, Rev. Purchaß and S. .1. Preston (lion, sec.) The minutes were confirmed and out. ward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.

From R. Wild asking that he be supplied with list of any requiremets of the Committee from the Education Board. —Received.. From Hokitika Borough Council statinr- request for attention to drains surrounding tho school had been referred to the Works Committee to attend to.

—Received. From Canterbury Education Board in reference to non-notification of vacancy on tire Board and stating that orders for the advertising of the vacancies had gone astray as though they had left tho office they had not been received h.v the newspapers in Grey mouth and Hokitika.—Received. From Same asking Committees to hold the usual term holidays at the end of the month.— Received and agreed to.

From Rector (Mr J. Irvine) reporting tho attendance for the month showed primaiy 353 (last month 341) and secondary 63 (last month 61). The total was 416 (102) and average attendance 382 as against 380 for their previous month The average attendance for the month had been somewhat lou owing to sickness; enclosing collections to fuel fund £3 2s 9d; stating Miss Ward hud resumed her duties having recovered from her recent illness; asking that a further -supply of honours cards. - Received and. adopted. From School Committees Association forwarding report of proceedings. —Received.

The Visiting School Committee having failed tq visit the school Messrs Aitken and Bruce were reappointed. Some small accounts were passed , for

payment. ’The Committee rose at 7.50 p.m
