Demand notes for income tax were issued on Ist August from Cork in the name of the Republican civil administration department peremptorily demanding payment within three days. A joint meeting of Cork Chamber of Commerce and Employers Federation resolved if anyone was victimised for not complying with the demand, that all other firms will sympathetically close and discharge all employees
