It lias been decided that the special committee appointed by the Minister for Health to inquire into the question of venereal disease will commence its sittings at Parliamentary Building,, .Wellington, at 111 a.m. on 'luesday, August Bth.

The order of reference is as follows: (I) To inquire and report as to the prevalence of venerea! disease in New Zealand.

(■J) To inquire and report auv spec;al ic'asoMs or causes for the existence of venereal disease in New Zealand. (It) To advise as to the best means of combatting and preventing venereal disease in New Zealand, and especially as to the necessity or otherwise of further legislation in the matter. The committee will welcome evidence on all aspects °f tlio question, and will he glad if persons desiring to give evidence wifi communicate immediately with Mr C. J. Drake, secretary to the Board of Health, I\o. Box 1140, "Wellington. The attendance at the venereal disease? department of the Christchurch Hospital during June, numbered 510, representing 115 patients, 31 of whom were new cases. At its meeting the Hospital Board adopted a recommendation from the hospital committee that it should recommend to the Minister, the appointment of Mrs Herbert on the committee set up to enquire into the prevalence of venereal disease and ibe best means of combatting it.

So far there has been no ready response from Wellington or other centres to Ihe invitation to give evidence liefre the Venereal Diseases’ Committee which opens its sittings at Wellington on Monday. The Committee, is reporting on the prevalence, cause, cure, and prevention of the disease in 1 New Zealand, and also on the necessity nr otherwise of further legislation to cope with the diseases. \
