The “Evening Standard” says:—The system is too full of anomalies to give satisfaction to anyone. The agitation is strong throughout tbs country, and it will be strange if that- autocratic body, the Maryiebone Ollib, continue to turn deaf ears to tbe many proposals being made. The present scheme is ensuring so* much dissatisfaction that something must he done in the direction of improvements. Public opinion is growing in favour of a division -of the first-class counties into two sections. In County cricket, Notts (277 and. 205) beat Lancashire 231 and 184. Middlesex pi the second innings made 182 for 4 wickets. The, game was abandoned owing to rain. Playing Hants, Surrey made 323 and Ml for 8 wickets (declared). Hants made 291 n.nd 130 for 5 wickets. Snndbmn for Surrey made 123 and 7 (not out). The game was drawn Somerset (307) drew with Worcester. who made 87 and 145 for 9 wickets, White took 8 wickets for 55.
