STRIKERS AND TROOPS CLASH.
NEW YORK, Aug' 4. According to a Staunton, Indiana message, hostilities started when State troops took control of the mines for State operations. The strikers fired from an ambush, the- tr<wp s returning shots, which were exchanged over a wide area for over an hour. A lack of miners who are willing to work, may result in the State-importing labour.
U.S.A. STRIKE. NEW YORK, August 4. A Jersey City message states that 21 strike breakers at a Pennysylvania railway camp have been taken violently ill. It is believed their food was poisoned
STRIKE SITUATION. NEW YORK, August o Following on O’Shea’s nofiee on behalf of the enginemen, objecting to working with inexperienced guards, the railwaymen generally are seeking a conference. On Saturday night four Railway Brotherhoods wired their legislative representatives, requesting a conference between the union chiefs and President Harding in regard to the railway strike.
