NEW YORK, Aug. 3. Much surprise was expressed at Senbright tournament when Hunter defeated Patterson, o—2, G—3. William Johnston defeated Anderson G—2, B—6;
Hunter, who is not ranked in the official United States tennis list, outplayed the Australian, who was decidedly off the game. Anderson fought hard in his game, but Johnston, who ranks second to Tilden, played brilliant tennis.
Williams defeated Godber, I—7, 7—5, 6—3.
Tn the doubles, Couehet and Borota defeated Ward and Davis, 7—5, 3—6, G—4. Yciikcn and Major defeated Patterson and Wertlieim, 7—5. G—7. Anderson and Johnson defeated Earned and Davis G—l, o—2.
