WONDERFUL WEST COAST
LECTURE BY DR. TEICHELMANN
\t the Y.M.C.A. Buildings, Wellington, on Friday evening says the New Zealand Times, Dr E. Teichelmann of Hokitika, under the auspices ot tne Canterbury Progress League, gave a most interesting lantern lecture on the scenic charms of the West Coast. The object of the lecture was to make the West Const better known to the Wellington people, and it would be safe to say that not any of the three bundred persons present could have failed to he impressed with the natural beauties of that district. Mr W- Bglin, vice-president of the Y.M.C.A.. occupied the chair. Hr Teichelmann, who has been long resident on the W r est Coast, was particularly competent to describe the scenic grandeurs of the surrounding country. He has carried out great amount of exploration bv mountain and dale, and has accumulated a large number of most interesting of unrivalled mountain scenery. The lantern slides totalled some 160, including mostly Dr Teiehelniann’s own and those of Messrs W. A. Kennedy, of Christchurch, and Peart and Thiem. Starting from the Canterbury side of the Southern Alps, the lecturer took his listeners via Broken river, Otira Gorge and Hokitika to the Franr, Josef glacier and surrounding mountains, the sjides presenting some indescribably fine panoramic views. At the conclusion, on tile motion of Mr F. W. YossoTcr, of the Tnranin Tramping Club, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Dr Teichelmann.
