HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT.
WELLINGTON, July 26 The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated July 22, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London : MEAT.
The mutton market remains steady at the same prices. Good demand continues for lamb and prices remain firm Very small supplies of fresh New Zealand beef arc available, and chilled alsi is in smaller supply. Present quotations are :—New Zealand mutton, light weight fid to 63d, medium Cgd to Cijd, heavy-weight 4}d to ojd ; ewes 4d to Ijd. New Zealand lamb, best quality light-weight lljd to 11Jcl, heavyweight 10)d to lid, ordinary IOJd, • second-class quality lO.jd. New Zealandbeef, hinds 5 Id, fores 3d. Chilled hoof, hinds 7d, fores 4d per 11). BUTTER. • The market is very quiet and prices have declined. Present quotations are: New Zealand 212 sto 216 s per cwt (Is lOld to Is lljd per lb). Australian (unsalted), 203 sto 210 s per cwt (Is 10. pl to Is 10Jd per lb), (salted) 206 s to 208 s per cwt (Is 10d to Is 10J(1 per lb. Danish. 214 sto 218 s per ewt (Is 10. pl to Is 11 Jd per lb). Argentine 202 sto 203 s per cwt (Is 9Jd to Is ]OJd per lb). Irish, 200 sto 204 s per cwt (Is 0)d to Is Op] per lb). French, 212 s to 224 s per cwt (Is IOJd to 2s per lh). CHEESE. The demand Tins improved slightly at lower prices. Present quotations are:—English, finest farmers’ 110 s to 120 s per cwt (11 pi to Is OJd x»er lb). New Zealand, coloured 84s to 90s per cwt (9d to OJd per lb), white 90s to 94s per cwt.(93<l to lOd per lb). Canadian coloured 80s to 06s per cwt ( 9pl to 93d per lb), white 90s to 04s per ewt (93d to 10d per lb). HEMP. Manila is in better demand and the tone is firmer, “11” grade, July-Sep-t-mber and August-Oetober shipments sold at £33 10s per ton ; “J” grade, same position, now quoted £34 10s per ton. The New Zealand hemp market is quiet and steady, high-points JulySeptcmber shipments sold at £3l 10s per ton. Fair grade quoted at, sellers CHO 10s per ton, same position. Spot os i>or ton more. WOOL. Sales continue with good demand, and opening prices are generally maintained. FRUIT. The last shipment of Australian has Keen discharged and prices are firm. Sale, of apples ex Cornwall continued steady at: Stunners 18> to 20s, Cleopatra's I (is to 19s. Winesnps 15s. Jonathans Ids to 16s 6d. New towns 18s, Scarlet Pearmnins 17s (id, Delicious 17s (all per case). EGGS. There is a better demand at lower prices. Italian. Irish, Danish, Dutch, French, English, 14s to 17s fid ; Polish, Russian. Us to 12s per long hundred.
