Tim proposal to send a Westland delegation to Canterbury next month at the invitation of the Progress League, and to discuss at Christchurch the special requirements of Westland with the parent League, should prove of gieat value to this district. The closer alliance now growing up between Canterbury anj Westland through the aid of the Progress Teague is of immediate value to Westland, and should be mure fully cultivated at every possible opportunity. The occasion now offering should he availed of to the utmost, and the more intimate relations between the two provinces cemented. While in Canterbury, tile visitors so far as travelling and sight-seeing, will he the guests of the Canterbury League, the members of which say they are most desirous of returning in some measure the hospitality which has been extended in the past to the League visitors to Westland. Tt is proposed to make a tour of North Canterbury by motor ear, travelling by the inland route to Hauiner Springs, and returning hv the Const route to Christchurch. A further visit to the Hororata county is to be made, also by motor, when the Lake Coleridge power station is to he visited. Other motor trips will he arranged as time permits, including visits to Kidapoi and the woollen mills, Akaroa, etc. In addition various large manufacturing works will lie visited, so that the trip will he one of considerable educational value. T 1 e conference proposed will he in relation to Westland wants, and in regard to arrangements to mark the opening of the Otira tunnel. Can. terbury and Westland 1 will then bo permanently linked, and it is suggested a souvenir booklet for advertising and record purposes should he issued jointly by the provinces to mark the great occasion and happy union. In addition the conference will permit a full discussion witu Canterbury friends in regard to the Jubilee Exhibition proposals. It is expected various members of the Legislature will he able to attend the meeting, and the scheme could he definitely formulated, and the interest of Canterbury industrialists secured. The visit is to extend over eight days, extending from the sth August to the 12th August inclusive, anj will cover the special festitivities which mark “National Week ” in Christchurch, when the city is busy and bright. The visit should de much to foster the growing good feeling between Canterbury and Westland, and at the same time do much to advance in particular the interests of this district.
