HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.

The Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram dated July 15 from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: —

M EAT. Spot supplies o’f mutton are heavy, and the market continues weak, with prices slightly lower. The lamb market remains firm, and the demand is good ; spot supplies are small. The tendency is slightly easier for ex ship sales. Only a small supply of New Zealand l.cei" is available. Chilled supplies are •every heavy at lower prices. Present quotations are :—New Zealand mutton, light-weight fid to (p’d, medium sjd to fijd, heavy-weight 4jd to s)d ; ewes, til to ltd: New Zealand lamb, host quality, light-weight 11 Jd to 11)d, heavy-weight HRd to lid, ordinary 10jd : second-class quality 10. RI. Now Zealand beef, hinds 4 ; !d, tores 2Jd. Chill d beef, hinds s?d, fores 3d per lb.

BUTTER. Danish continues in large supply, and there is very little improvement in the demand, with the result that values have declined further. The Manila maiket continues quiet, but prices steady. G grade Jul.v-Sep-tember shipments and Auguisl-October shipments are quoted at GUI pci ton, .) grade C3O 10s sellers. The demand is good for spot parcels at 20s to JOs aver shipment prices. The output ironi .January l to July 1 was 50(1.000 bales, a.oiinsL .'HO,OIK) bales for the same period last year. Stocks in London at the end of June were KMO4 bales, against 52.873' at the some time last year. There is better inquiry for New Zealand hemp from America, and fanbusiness is reported at about L'.tl 10“ per ton good fair, L'32 10s per ton high points.
