HORNSBY ROBBERIES. | SYDNEY, July 20. Powell and Spitliill (cabled July 12) were committed for trial oil charges of assault, attempt to rob and conspiring to assault and rob. A youth, who is alleged to he an accomplice, made a statement which implicated the two accused in a series of robberies at f ornsby. He said lie had embarked on a career of crime with them, but later joined the Salvation Army and gave up crime. I-lis reason for giving evidence was that since he joined the Army he had dedicated himself to the truth. I ATTEMPTED HOLD-UP. i SYDNEY, July 20. A sensational hold-up of a Silo con-struction-paymaster was attempted between Ariali Park and Mirrool. Paymaster Leifferiilall, accompanied by Inspector Skinner, were carrying £3,000 in pay for Silo workers at Ariali Park, Mirrooi and Kamnrali. When nearing Mirrool a charge of shot was fired at their car from behind a tree, wounding the Inspector. The paymaster presented a revolver in the direction from whence the shot chine nlid silw a man running, through the trees. Both occupants of the car, taking no risks, seized the money, and took refuge in a nearby farmhouse. Two arrests have been made.

The Labour Council adopted the report recommending the go-slow scheme, as a counter to Government’s contemplated legislation abolishing the forty-four hours’ week and reducing wages.
