APPEAL COUR T. WELLINGTON, July 19. This morning the Court of Appeal continued the hearing of argument in the matter of Lundoii’s application foi re; (Imission. Mr Blair for the applicant dealt with the affidavits, over 50 in n :aher. v.hieh had been filed in support of the application. These were l,y till the solicitors in the district, excepi one, which spoke ns to London's good character and reputation since lie a ' lieen farming. Lundoii’s object in making the application was to he able to save his farm from being sold by the mortgagees and to pay his creditors. Argument is proceeding.

TRAMWAY COXFERENCE. i WELLINGTON. July 15.

As the result of the citation papers filed by the City Council oil Monday last against the Tramway men's Union, a conciliation sitting has been fixed for Monday, duly 24th. So far the City Council has received from the union no intention to go out on strike in accordance with the decision of the ballot early last week.

MAORIS AND HOSPITALS. WELLINGTON. July 18

A conference took place this morning between the Minister of Health i'.ud Hospitals and the'Minister of Native Affairs on the vexed question of Maori contributions to hospitals. They were present the Maori members of the House of Representatives, members representing the electorates in which there are hospital districts affected; also Dr Buck who is in charge of Maori health and hygiene; aiul Judge .Jones f Tnder-Scorctary of Native Affairs). Complaint has been made by certain Hospital Boards in the North Island that, while they give treatment to Maori patients, it is often difficult to collect fees in payment, and that- the amount of rates they collect from Maori lands for hospital maintenance is almost negligible. A lengthy friendly discussion took place Oil the whole question. The Under-Secretary of Native Affairs .showing that in the South Island, when the Native hind was purchased, one of the conditions was that the Government .should give* mcnlical treatment. Ilieie was no "evidence of this condition applying to the North Island. Another question raised was whether the Government should not he responsible. apart from Hospital Board contributions. for Maori epidemics. The conference adjourned for a fortnight The Minister of Health, who had presided, stated that, after heaving both sides, he was hopeful of nuiking some suggestions which would meet the difficulty.

At the inquest on the body of a female infant found in Park Street on Monday in a parcel. Doctor Evans stated the neck was encircled with tight fitting tapes. The child had been born alive. The cause of death was asphyxia following strangulation. The inquest was adjourned to allow the police to investigate.
